Black History Moment: Claudette Colvin (Unknown Pioneer)

Claudette Colvin was born on September 1939 in Montgomery, Alabama. On March 2, 1955 at the age of 15 Claudette was forced to give up her seat to a white person. When she refused to give up the seat, she was arrested. She was arrested for resisting bus segregation in Montgomery Alabama. Thereafter, she became one of four plaintiffs in the Browder v. Gayle case, which ruled that Montgomery's segregated bus system was unconstitutional. Colvin moved to New York City and worked as a nurse's aide. She retired in 2004 (Source: Biography.com)
